Fashion Television Shows
Fashion
is a big part of our society, so it only makes sense that it would be part of
our television lineup. From makeover shows to fashion competitions, there is a
little something for everyone out there. Here is a list of five sure-fire fashion-related
shows that are sure to entertain and provide great fashion advice.
“Project Runway” – Spirited aspiring
fashion designers, sassy judges, creative garments, and Tim Gunn – all things
you’ll find on Lifetime’s hit reality show, “Project Runway.” Watch as a group
of aspiring fashion designers battle to become the next big thing in fashion,
while forging friendships and making enemies along the way. Each week,
contestants are given an assignment by hostess Heidi Klum and mentor Tim Gunn,
and at the end of the allotted time, there is a runway show and subsequent
judging session by Klum; fashion designer Michael Kors; journalist and former
fashion director for “Marie Claire” and
“Elle” magazines, Nina Garcia; and a guest judge relevant to the challenge. For
fashion and drama all rolled into one, tune in to “Project Runway” Thursdays at
9/8c on Lifetime.
“America’s Next Top
Model” –
The road to becoming a top model is a hard one, but it can also be fun to
watch. Join supermodel Tyra Banks as she mentors model hopefuls in “America’s
Next Top Model.” Each episode features fashion shoots (mini-challenges and the
main photoshoot), drama in the house the hopefuls share, and, of course, lots
of fashion. The winner of it all gets a premiere modeling contract and a cover shoot
for nationally distributed magazine. Watch as the competition unfolds in the
Cycle 19 premiere on Friday, August 24 at 8/7c on the CW.
“What Not to Wear”
– Fashion moguls Stacy London and Clinton Kelly
turn fashion offenders into fashionistas on the popular TLC show, “What Not To
Wear.” This show follows fashion victims whose family and friends nominate them
for a makeover in New York City with Stacy and Clinton. Each week, a new
participant learns more than the difference between a pencil skirt and an
a-line skirt; they learn a lot about life, confidence, and happiness. Although
the outcome of the show is usually serious and inspiring, there are plenty of
wisecracks along the way, courtesy of Stacy and Clinton. Tune in to watch these
life-changing makeovers on TLC Tuesdays at 10/9c on TLC.
“Fashion Star” –Check out “Fashion
Star,” a competition-style reality show in which aspiring designers vie for the
chance to win a $6 million order for capsule collections in H&M, Macy’s,
and Saks Fifth Avenue. The aspiring designers are mentored by Jessica Simpson,
Nicole Ritchie, and John Varvatos. Unlike the traditional runway shows in
“Project Runway,” “Fashion Star” offers high-energy, explosive shows with music
and creative lighting. For something a little different than your average
fashion show, tune into “Fashion Star” on NBC.
