Louis Vuitton wins lawsuit against Britney Spears

Britney Spears got into some serious trouble for using the Vuitton name without permission.

The French fashion house decided to take action following their trademark handbag fabric featuring in the pink car in her Do Something Video

"Britney Spears‘ video for ‘Do Somethin’‘ was involved in a lawsuit by Louis Vuitton. The problem is that in the video, Louis Vuitton fabric was used. It was stretched across the dashboard like nobody’s business.

The label has won a $117,000 cash award and the rights to have the video banned from future use."

But it technically and surprisingly wasn’t Britney’s fault,

In the video, Spears appears in a car upholstered with Louis Vuitton fabric. The tribunal found the director of the video had clearly emphasised the Louis Vuitton brand, the report said.
The tribunal ruled that responsibility for the unauthorised use of the Louis Vuitton brand lay with Sony (nyse: SNE - news - people ) BMG and its subsidiary Zomba as well as MTV Online, and not the singer herself.

Or was it?

Britney made her directorial debut with the music video for Do Somethin’, though she had assistance from previous Spears collaborator Billie Woodruff (”Born to Make You Happy,” “Overprotected”). Britney requested that she be credited as “Mona Lisa” for the video, her apparent alter-ego.
